MEMORIES SERIES

series 3/3 - textured whites

What began as an intuitive response to loss, catapulted an obsessive yet therapeutic repetition-making project. Inspired by the aesthetics of Rorschach test inkblots, nearly one hundred small paintings comprise this oeuvre; a concept which spans the course of four years.

Two forms are painted on one side of a creased paper. They ‘kiss’ when the paper is folded, only to be pulled away as the paper unfolds and is split in half. Discovery lies in what results—a representation of love and separation. Often, some of the severed forms contain vacant spaces which appear where the paint should have been equally distributed. Rather than a one-sided loss, perhaps through these tiny apertures, we see magnificent and remedial expansion.
